Fundraising Is Not a Science and an Art. It’s Process and Gut.
Fundraising isn't a science requiring data analytics or an art requiring creative genius. The Golden Rule Is Ruining Your Fundraising
The Golden Rule says treat donors how YOU want to be treated. The Donor Rule says lead with curiosity — ask how THEY want to be thanked, communicated with, involved, and celebrated - then do exactly that. Four simple questions nobody asks. Stop telling one story to all donors. Segment by what THEY told you they care about. Two versions of an appeal matched to donor passions will outperform one generic version every time.

A Donor Paid My Client $2,500 to Cancel Her Event. It Was the Best Gift She Got All Year.
A donor called my client and asked how much she'd spent on her struggling event. "$2,500." The donor said: "If I write you a check for that, will you cancel it? It's a friendraiser, not a fundraiser." Best gift she got all year. You have permission to kill the event that isn't working. If your team dreads it, the math doesn't work, and you're only doing it to avoid an uncomfortable conversation - cancel it. Redirect the energy.
